Similar to other accreditation schemes, the SIDAS accreditation is valid on an annual basis and renewal includes a renewal fee and a min 20 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points per annual cycle.
This is to promote lifelong learning and for accredited Interior Designers to stay current with latest technology and materials, etc.
SIDAS recognises the competencies and professionalism of Interior Designers. There is a growing trend for architects to provide interior Design services as part of their practice / total solutions.
Registered architects who are practicing in the field of Interior Design are encouraged to apply for the SIDAS so as to recognise and uphold their skillsets in the realm of Interior Design.
In future, both public and private tenders may specify for an Accredited Interior Designer to be part of tender or design submissions that include Interior Design services. Retail sectors may also require for retail fit-out projects to be delivered by Accredited Interior Designers to ensure quality and professionalism.
SIDAS is a voluntary scheme and all practicing Interior Designers who offer related services in Interior Design are encouraged to be accredited to ensure their professionalism, as well as continued development of skillsets.
Interior Designers or related parties claiming to offer Interior Design services are still able to practice based on existing practices, eg. HDB License, etc. However, in future, both public and private tenders may specify for an Accredited Interior Designer to be part of tender or design submissions that include Interior Design services. Retail sectors may also require for retail fit-out projects to be delivered by Accredited Interior Designers to ensure quality and professionalism.
Currently non-design trained parties can offer Interior Design services to the public. Without the proper training and consistent level of professionalism, the Interior Design industry has been affected and given a bad name to the industry. In 2020, there were a total of 745 complaints lodged with consumer watchdog CASE against design firms and renovation contractors.
SIDAS is intended to set the local industry on a pathway of professionalism and continued excellence, where practitioners are regularly striving to improve to make a bigger impact in both the local and international markets.
Innovation and advancement in design, materials and technology are key to developing the skills designs for our Interior Designers. Our designers tend to focus on delivering their projects and their skills remain stagnated and not further developed. The CPD programme intends to help continue the learning so that our designers can compete on an international level, where hunger to learn and innovate have elevated their design scene.
The SIDAS CPD programme will partner different stakeholders to bring important topics to the forefront, eg. Sustainability with Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) to push Singapore’s Green agenda.
SIDAS is a national accreditation scheme where the evaluation is overseen by the Singapore Interior Design Accreditation Council (SIDAC) which comprises of representatives from Government Organisations, Trade Associations, Interior Design professionals and Institutes of Higher Learning.
SIDS is the society that initiated the scheme and is a different platform serving the needs of Interior Designers. Being a SIDS member, one can enjoy preferential rates for SIDS-organized awards, accreditation courses, events, seminars, and Singapore Interior Design Awards which can be accounted for CPD points, which are a requirement to renew one’s Interior Design accreditation.
As the reviewers are experiencing high volume of registration numbers daily, please allow the entire process to take between 4 to 8 weeks to be completed.
